eTown HallWendy Cooney is the Lighting Designer for eTown Hall, a Live Music Venue and Recording Complex located in downtown Boulder, Colorado. eTown Hall recently opened its doors to the public and has started taping radio shows and offering live music and community events.
With solar panels covering the roof and LED lighting comprising 90% of the building lighting applications, it is sure to be one of the greenest buildings of its kind in Boulder, perhaps the country. LED lighting is being integrated throughout the building for both the architectural lighting as well as for the stage lighting. In general, LED fixtures last 10-20 times as long, while using only 10-20% of the energy compared with traditional incandescent sources. Read more about LED lighting on the Blog page. There are three main areas of the building in this phase of the project. A 200 seat Performance Hall is accessed though a grand new atrium entrance. This space serves as a music venue as well as a sound stage for live recordings. The Community Room is located below and serves as a gathering space, cafe and ticket booth. Alternately, this room can be used for workshops, meetings and community events. With a small stage at one end, this space will be ideal for intimate performances. The third space in the building is a state-of-the-art Recording Studio. With high ceilings, a sophisticated control room and a vocal isolation booth, this facility will be a destination for industry artists.
