Wendy Cooney’s lighting design career began in New York City in 1986 working for the lighting design firm, Cline Bettridge Bernstein Lighting Design. The quality of her work resulted in numerous lighting awards from both the International Association of Lighting Designers and the Illuminating Engineering Society.
In 1993, Ms. Cooney opened her own practice, which led to consulting work for the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Ms. Cooney worked as the Guggenheim's exhibition lighting designer until 1997. Her exhibition design work with the museum included direct collaboration with many notable artists, and the development of a gallery lighting system for the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain. Wendy Cooney Lighting Design has been addressing architectural lighting solutions since 1998. Ms. Cooney’s architectural lighting design work has focused on custom residential projects, schools, restaurants, galleries, churches and theaters. She has designed lighting for adaptive reuse development and historic restoration projects. Ms. Cooney has consulted on numerous projects seeking LEED certification and she has worked closely with local municipalities to develop community lighting policies that address sustainability and light pollution. As a theatrical lighting designer, Wendy Cooney has consulted on major concert tours and has executed console programming and equipment focusing for concert lighting systems. .
